On April 18, 2023, the Hamilton community gathered at City Hall for the Hamilton Jewish Federation’s annual Yom HaShoah commemoration in partnership with Margaret's Legacy.
A special tribute was dedicated to Benjamin Ferencz, who passed away just days earlier on April 9, 2023. As the last surviving prosecutor from the Nuremberg trials and a key figure in postwar justice, his legacy serves as a reminder of the importance of accountability and the pursuit of justice following unimaginable atrocities.
Remarks were shared by Andrea Horwath, Howard Eisenberg, and Jessica Burke, reflecting the broader civic and community commitment to Holocaust remembrance and education.
The evening concluded with reflections from Holocaust survivor Nadia Rosa, whose words grounded the event in lived experience and reinforced the urgency of preserving survivor testimony.
Following the program, attendees were invited to view the Yad Vashem poster exhibit, Heroism and Resistance, displayed in the City Hall foyer. The exhibit highlighted acts of courage and defiance during the Holocaust, offering an additional layer of engagement and learning.
