Margaret's Legacy Educational Partnership with Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center

Updated: Dec 28, 2018

Margaret’s Legacy is proud to announce an educational partnership with Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies. Our organizations share the belief that positive changes happen when we educate young people about the values of tolerance, empathy, and leadership.

The Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Centre has been teaching Canadian students about these values through the lens of Holocaust education for the past 25 years, and they are excited to move forward with Margaret’s Legacy to expand their outreach to young people across the province.

Margaret’s Legacy is a unique opportunity for workshop participants to see the effects of the Holocaust in the micro-history of one family’s story of courage and resilience. The incredible personal account of the Weisz family gives students a more accessible connection with the larger history of the Holocaust in Europe. This educational resource allows for younger students to have meaningful insight into the tangible effects that prejudice, hatred, and antisemitism had on Margaret and Arthur. Through a combination of audio-visual and interactive components, this program fosters an important dialogue about the lessons we must teach the next generation.

It is the joint goal of FSWC and Margaret’s Legacy to reach as many students as possible to ensure that we do not forget those who suffered and to create a new generation of Canadians who can say that they too are witnesses to this vital history.
